Holidays can be some of the most amazing, enjoyable, enlightening, relaxing, and memorable moments in your life. Whether you prefer to travel solo, with family or friends, holidays are a great opportunity to relax and recharge mentally and physically. The problem is once you get home it can feel like all you have left of the holiday is your memories. Well, that doesn’t always have to be the case, as we’ve got some fun and creative ways you can showcase your favourite holiday memories and think about them every day.
Design a Personalised Holiday Photo Wall
Everybody knows that artwork can be pretty expensive, and if you don’t find you have an “eye for art” it can be overwhelming to pick the perfect pieces for your home. A great and cost-effective solution is to create your art in the form of a holiday photo wall. What’s great about this approach is that you can display pictures from each trip you go on, or you can create a collage of a specific destination and then constantly swap it out to keep it fresh and exciting.
There are several different approaches for these styles of photo walls from keeping everything uniform (the same sized photos and the same frame for all) or making it feel a bit more eclectic and having a variety of shapes, sizes and colours that are displayed more randomly.
Choose an Item to Collect from Each City/Town
This brings us to the next idea, which is to start a holiday collection. You can pick one item or a theme that you look for in each destination. Depending on how often you travel, your collection could build pretty quickly. These collectables will add personality to the room, act as a conversation starter and fill you with joy each time you look at them.
If you plan on using this tip be sure to think about how you plan to display the items and in what room(s) of your house.
Highlight a Specific Memory or Moment
Did you travel to a destination that struck a chord? Maybe it was a place you enjoyed the best food ever, the most beautiful beach, the loveliest city, the friendliest people and so forth. You can then highlight that very specific memory and moment.
If you happened to capture a photo at that moment, you could have it framed, or you could think outside the box and create something like a customised map of that destination. You can check out Craft & Oak for examples.
Model Your Home’s Colour Palette After a Destination
Some holiday destinations will stand out thanks to their natural beauty and scenery. So, why not take the essence of that scenery and use it to pick a colour palette for your home. Your colour palette will then end up speaking to you on a more personal level and will make all other design decisions much easier.
All of these tips give you ways that you can prolong those holiday memories, re-living them each day.
